I didn’t know Bandipur existed until one of my friend told me it’s a national park. It was 4.00 in the morning and I was confused on where my weekend ride was. It was Mysore but in the end it was Bandipur. The journey started at 5.30.a.m. from Appakudal a small village 40 km away from Sathyamangalam.
The first stop was at Athani, a small village, Stopped for a cup of coffee. The place has good cold coconut milk which was delicious.
After coffee the ride was nonstop till Bannari amman temple. praying for a safe journey is a customary here .
I have been travelling in this route for like from 2000. The roads were very bad and I had not taken the Bannari to Mysore for the past few years.
I should say the roads have become very smooth.. Long back all I can remember is that they were all bumpy. The hairpin bends kthimbamvends in and the climb was made.. It is really difficult to ride a lorry up these hills.
Had breakfast at Hasanur and the Pongal was good for the long journey, since it takes longer time for digestion :-). The Ride continued till Charmrajnagar, I checked the maps to find the way BandBandipur and guess what, I found it’s on the same way to Ooty.
So as soon as saw the Board saying Ooty I thought my ride is going to extend.
I rode till and reached Bandipur National park with an intermediate stop at the wild life gift shop.
Be sure to take money with you the ATM is not available in Bandipur. You have to go all the way upto guldelpet again.
The Bandipur National park jungle safari operates only from 6.30 a.m. to 9.30.a.m. and by evening 3.30.p.m to 6.30 p.m.
I reached by 10 30.a.m. so no safari and a lot of people turned back with dissapointment.
I decided to ride to Ooty and just outside of the park came three deers swiftly crossing the road.
A few kilometres later it was the end of Karnataka and begnning of Tamilnadu, it was Mudhimalai tiger reserve.
Masinagudi was the next stop for tea.
Reached Ooty for lunch. Drove around and then had a cup oaravangadu mettupalayam , came down to mettupalayam.
Took the Sathyamangalam route and reached home by 5.00.p.m.
Total distance covered was 360km.
Awesome driving experience
Will post my next ride soon
